Dental implants are replacement tooth roots made of titanium. Implants provide a strong foundation for fixed (permanent) or removable replacement teeth that are made to match your natural teeth. Instead of individual crowns, some patients may have attachments on their implant that support a removable denture.
Harbourview Dental can replace single teeth or a full set of teeth, depending on the restoration requirement. Our caring staff will delicately insert titanium dental implants of specific size and take care to ease your anxieties. Crown & Bridges
Indications for Crown:
Veneers are ultra-thin, custom-made porcelain laminates that are bonded directly to the teeth. They are an option for closing gaps, or for disguising discoloured teeth that do not respond well to whitening procedures. Depending on the procedure, tooth reduction may be necessary.
Invisalign, Braces, & Retainers
Invisalign (Invisible Braces) is an innovative method of straightening teeth, using breakthrough technology that lets you get the smile you always wanted without bands, brackets or wires. Results, costs, and treatment times are about the same as fixed braces – so the advantages are clear!
Tooth sensitivity frequently happens when people brush their teeth, or eat and drink something too cold (ice cream) or too hot. It’s caused by the thinning of the outer part of the tooth structure – enamel, which in turn makes the nerves inside more superficial. As a result sensitivity or even pain is easily triggered. The most common cause of enamel wearing is heavy tooth brushing (abrasion lesions), tooth grinding and bruxism (grinding teeth during sleep).
Hygiene Check-Ups & Cleanings
Dental cleanings involve removing plaque (soft, sticky, bacteria infested film) and tartar (calculus) deposits that have built up on the teeth over time. Your teeth are continually bathed in saliva which contains calcium and other substances which help strengthen and protect the teeth. While this is a good thing, it also means that we tend to get a build-up of calcium deposits on the teeth. This chalky substance will eventually build up over time, like lime scale in a pipe or kettle. Usually it is tooth coloured and can easily be mistaken as part of the teeth, but it also can vary from brown to black in colour.
Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatments are an effective way of saving and repairing teeth before they get to the stage where it becomes necessary to have them removed.
Tooth /Zoom! Whitening
We would prefer to allow healing of early decay rather than drilling holes. We have a program of Caries (Decay) Control and Dental Erosion Control. If we have to intervene we prefer to use air abrasion (no drill or needle) or a laser. That way we can do such small fillings that you can barely see them.
Harbourview Dental provides a range of general dentistry services for adults and children. We provide a caring service to ensure we address any of your dental concerns. All patients will receive the same meticulous attention; no matter the procedure. Be it root canal treatment, routine examination, dental implants or wisdom teeth extraction, we strive to ensure each patient is comfortable and relaxed.
Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the bone. If a tooth has been broken or damaged by decay, your dentist will try to fix it with a filling, crown or other treatment. Sometimes, though, there’s too much damage for the tooth to be repaired. In this case, the tooth needs to be extracted. A very loose tooth also will require extraction if it can’t be saved, even with bone replacement surgery (bone graft).
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer. Only about half of people diagnosed with oral cancer survive more than five years. That’s because cancer in the neck and mouth spreads quickly. Often, it isn’t found until it’s very advanced.
Oral cancer includes cancer of the throat, lips, mouth, tongue, gums and salivary glands. Anyone can get oral cancer. Although smoking increases the risk, more than 25% of oral cancer cases occur in people who never smoked.
There are several options to consider when replacing missing teeth. Dentures and dental implants are the two most common solutions. The two differ in longevity, comfort, confidence while wearing, and effect on your pocket book.
